Painting Coin Door
(1/2) > >>
vader:
Need some slight input on painting the coin door.  First of all, the paint is in decent shape but should I go over with some paint stripper anyway and just repaint it.  Secondly,  what type of paint do you suggest, best results and why, this is just your standard flat black type of atari door.  Missile Command door to be exact....thanks for any help...

Probably just use a standard flat or semi-gloss black enamel paint.

I personally media blasted mine to take excess chipping and scaling off. Also the Rustoleum Hammered Finish black paint gives the perfect look to the finish. So definitely one way or another, get the scale and rust off before refinishing, howerever you decide to do it.  :)

P.S. You say paint is in decent shape, so you could try and clean it up and respray it to "freshen" it, but i dont recommend that. Doing things right the first time makes a better project. Then again its personal preference, if your satisfied, thats all that matters. You are the deciding factor.
Game On.

I guess I was lucky. My boss let me take mine to work and sand blast the CP and coin door. I just used spay primer and gloss black spray cans.
I am thinking of redoing them. (thay look fine ) but can now take them to work and sand blast again and have them powder coated a deep gloss black.

I just received a coin door I ordered off ebay and the door was pretty worn so I used paint stripper and let it soak in over night. After scraping all the paint off I used Rustoleum Textured Paint and gave it 2 coats, and then added a coat of Clear Coat and I am very happy with the look. I read a post on here somewhere before and I took the coin mechs out and soaked them in water w/ dish detergent overnight and then scrubbed them. You can then get a brass spray paint and spray the parts and they look brand new w/out all the dirt & grime on them. Good luck.
