Also - why don't you set up 2 profiles on your PC
1. MAME
2. PC

That way when in mame profile you can set it to go straight to the FE of your choice which will have an inbuilt screensaver which kicks in after a desired time.  The PC profiles can have any normal screensaver/powersaver settings you want.  Best of both worlds I think.

hmmmmm? I dont get it. I am just now switching to windows mame
(command line) I have had mame 32  with windows XP for a long time now and I have never had my screen savers pop in. I can not think of a time it did with 98se eather. my CP on the vertical is 2 sidewinder game pad hacks, My horizontal CP is 4 Playstation game pad hacks.
I bet its the joy to mouse program running doing it. I just thought of that... never mind  ;)

What he said.  I mean all full-time arcade monitors have burn-in, it's only a question of time.  While a MAME machine is probably less likely to cause burn due to running various games etc., it is still going to happen if left on long enough.

My FE launches a screensaver after 5 mins (I'm mixing between slide-show, movie playing and game-launching atm).  I hate power-saving on monitors normally, but I use it on my cab after 30 mins, for peace of mind :)

Edit: btw I use a 15khz monitor...I wouldn't be quite as worried about a PC monitor.

It would be nice if a "screensaver" on a FE consisted of the ability to launch a "random" mame game and of course just have it sitting in demo mode, for a defined time, then have mame exit to FE again,a nd the FE launches another game so say every 10 mins you look at the cab and it's like it's running a brand new game sitting there in demo mode waiting for someone to insert a coin.

I guess there's SOME way to launch MAME and then kill the process or something, dunno if there's anything messy about doing something like that idea...

See Howards EmuSaver ( www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus ), and MAME Screensaver ( http://www.xs4all.nl/~michieln/luciddreams/ ) - they allow just that :)
