I recieved the Gauntlet and it does have the sideart under a coat of flat black paint! I initailly thought I could get to the art by using "safe stripper" but none of my local shops carry it.
Should I order it or is there a better alternative? I'd like to use the best method as I am so interested in restoring the sideart!
Dig it?

I have the same cabinet as brained in very good condition. I don't have any pics because I don't own a digital camera. It's a Dynamo HS-5 with a 25 inch monitor. Mine was originally an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 cabinet before it took the MAME route. From my research on the cab I found most(all?) capcom fighting games are housed in a Dynamo. Which is probably why my button setup is the 6 button SF setup. One thing I like about the cabinet is the ease of rotating the monitor for vertical games.
1. Just open the control panel
2. Remove the glass, bezel
3. Un-screw top wing-nuts
4. Rotate and re-assemble
The only aspect I hate about the cabinet is their isn't any room to put a whole pc in it. I had to mount everything to the slide out pcb board attached to the CP. And now I'm running into heat issues, soon to be taken care of with a 80mm hole saw.
But back to the subject. From what I have found there is two different dynamo sized cabinets similiar to this(there are still many variations of these two though). Well three if you count some of the cabinets that housed the alpha series street fighters(same as 25 inch with wierd marquee and speaker setup on top).
They are either 19 or 25 inch cabinets. And this also relates to the CP width. All of the 25 inch CP's from what I recall have a rounded edge with the two flat corners on each side. But the 19 inch cabinet CP's come in all different shapes. I've seen boxy one's(Street Fighter II) to rounded one's.
Some of them have some really messed up button placement. I've seen a Street Fighter (6 button layout) at an almost 90 degree angle. Would of been funny to see people at the arcade trying to play it. Also saw a CP have the two joysticks in the middle, with six buttons on each side. So player one would have to be left handed.
Ocassionally you see these popup on Ebay in the parts section. Most of them are in the 19 inch flavor. Saw one for my cabinet and would of bid on it but the button layout was jacked. I wouldn't mind another CP similiar to mine. So i can blank out three button holes and add one more for Neo Geo games. And another with a spinner/trackball and 4-way joystick.

I have gotten in contact with a Dynamo sales rep. This is what little information he could dig up on old Dynamo cabinets:
--- Quote ---What little information I do have is from 1989.
HS-1 , 2, 8, and 9 all had a 23 3/4 wide control panel. All but the HS-9 had a 19" monitor. The HS-9 used a 25 inch and had a 2 section side walls.
The HS-4 was called the Big Boy cabinet and had a 29 1/2 wide control panel.
The HS-5 was the most liked unit and had a 25 3/4 wide panel.
We also had a unit called the HS-13 This was a two piece cabinet that used a 50" projection TV.
As far as pictures I might be able to find the HS-5,9, and 13. But I have never seen the others.
--- End quote ---
This info might helps people.
