Place Like tombstone for COnsoles??
SirPoonga:
Yeah, the consoles are just like the arcades. There are emus out there trying to emulate the latest and greatest arcades too. There are also tons of good quite old console emus out there to, not just new ones.
One could put the same arguement to arcades. They are being pirated, therefore people are staying home to play them, therefore in order to make money we have to jack up the price at the arcade.
Like I said, exactly the same thing, not the complete opposite.
Proof, why is mame.dk down... That's the arcade side.
Why was bleem taken down...The console side.
SNAAAKE:
PLEASE DONT PIRATE ps2 games people...look what you did to dreamcast(including me).now i feel like crying because dreamcast is dead.thats the best console ever so same will happen to ps2 if we dont consider buying any game ever.
however,i am not asking anyone to buy crap games.
i mean why should i pay like $50 for a game like sky gunner or bruce lee for x-box.those games should be like $5 so if i have $5 extra laying around i can go get a game then trash it.
games like metal gear solid 2,medal of honor, silent hill 2 and some other if you count should be bought at stores.end of story 8)
they are worth more then $50 in my opinion. :)
SirPoonga:
Sigh. pirating software did not kill the dreamcast. I'm not saying it didn't help, but it didn't kill it. Sega killed it. They couldn't sell the machine, that's why they kept lowering the price of it. They sold software really well. Hence that's why they are still in it. But they were caught between a hard place and sony.... The psx had more title, that's what hindered the start of the dc, the promise of a ps2 coming soon is what killed the dc in the end.
Howard_Casto:
Yeah sega's problem was it's credibility. The orignal maseter system was teriffic and ahead of it's time and thus they got a fairly strong user base from it, even though nintendo still creamed them. When the genesis came out they had a lot of loyal sega fans that bought it even though it was inferior graphically and sound wise, compared to the snes. By the time the n64 came out sega's pitiful hardware attempts had became apparent and people started ignoring their systems. When the Dc came out they finally had a technologically superior system, but people weren't about to fork over the cash for it for fear that it would only be around for about 3 months like the 32x or the other retarded subsystems they came out with. After the ps2 came out it became apparent that it was inferior to the dreamcast. The dc came out a full year before the ps2 and it's graphics are still on par with the average ps2 title. But by then all the stupid little boys and girls had their parents to uy them the crappy ps2 and it was too late.
So don't blame piracy, blame sony. The ps1 killed the n64 even though the n64 was a better system with better games. (There was even a cd add-on that never made it to the us because sony's competition was too fierce.) They did it with shovel ware. History repeated itself with the dc. Fortunately with round three the public is starting to realize the errors of it's ways. Although the cube and the box struggled at first... over time they are selling more units while the ps2 is not. This is good news for the gaming industry in my opinion.
I have nothing personal against the fine game makers at sony but when a system doesn't pass the nintendo seal of quality (Check out your video game history regarding the snes and playstation.) then there was probably a good reason why the company making it had no business releasing it.

I would agree that pirating CAN hurt new consoles like XBOX, PS, and PS2. But the NES is dead...no money is to be made

I agree with this point. If you're talking about new (or CURRENT) consoles, then yeah, I would say it's wrong. But the CLASSICS (ie - games that aren't even available) are a bit what we're about, yes?
