Help me decide TMolding color/style
« on: August 26, 2002, 10:20:39 pm »
Okay, I need help.  Well at least from you regarding T-Molding choices anyway.

Here's my setup:
o MsPacMan Cocktail - Will replace 3/4" black leather with same, and 1" black glossy with same.

o Playchoice 10 - Will replace 9/16" flat white with same new.

o PacMan - Is currently an Arknaoid, am converting BACK to it's glory. Will use 3/4" Orange authentic.

Need decisions:
o Bubble Bobble (In a Defender cabinet). Currently has 3/4" Black Leather.   What should I put on it?   Sides have dark red formica on it now. Don't think I will replace the sides just yet.

o MAME - Inside a Space Fury (aka Congo Bongo or *some* Zaxxon) cabinets. 3/4" curved glossy black. (25' worth!!! due to two layer sides). Sides are woodgrain somewhere between golden oak and walnut in shading.

o Arkanoid - Am going to build a mini/cabaret. Don't know if I will use 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4" sides.  But what color? (Dont tell me "1 inch rainbow stripes for each block color--That would be too much :) )

And then for a friend:
o Frogger -  I suggested 3/4" Galaxian green (that'd be cool!) but he wants 3/4" black leather. [it has 3/4 black gloss now].

So, I could use your guy's opinion on those:
- Bubble bobble [in Defender cab]
- MAME [in Space Fury/Congo Bongo cab]
- Arkanoid [in homemade mini--unknown "style" yet]

And my friend's Frogger if we can change his mind.

Thanks!  Please respond quick.. I might be ordering tomorrow!  :D

Thing that worries me with chrome or gold is that it will scratch very easily.   Plus I'm a "classic" guy (e.g. pre 1986 games mainly).  But I will scan some sites to see how the metal stuff looks.

Anyone else with comments?

I have chrome on my cabinet and it's great!  It doesn't scratch at all and it's actually a tad more flexible than the normal t-modling so it's easier to install.  (Why I don't know.)

I'm dying for someone to use the gold.  Pimp cab baby!!

Gold looks very god with red as well as with woodgrain.  I have seen cabs with these colors.

If I cab is black, I love red t-molding.
Oh, the memories of living on pizza subs and Dr Pepper...

howard,

will you  post a pic of your cab..i know its ply wood and spray paint..i am making another cab(NO,not for me.friend of mine paying me like $200 for the work).

i was thinking i do easier way...spray paint because i have limited space over here....so wanted to make sure what i can expect from ply wood and spray paint setup...also wanted to see the chrome molding..i wanted to install molding in my cab..but seems too much hassle..anyways post a pic will ya?thanks

Hi Snaaake

if you want to spray paint... then you should use MDF... up to my knowledge, you'll have better results than plywoods...

plywood is better if you stain it.... but MDF is for painting....

after you paint it... (even black), the wood pattern will still show in plywood.. (which I think makes it looks strange...)

Okay, here was my decision on the undecideds:

Bubble Bobble: Light Blue.  Matches one of the characters bubbles, and the main background of the marquee and scoring card, and the Romstar blue control panel background.

Arkanoid: Red... Not the bright red like Joystick red.. the more muted that is available in Tmolding (a tinch of maroon possibly?)  Similar to color of Laser pellet and the red used in Taito and Arkanoid Logo colors.

Can't talk my friend into Galaxian Green on the Frogger though ... Oh well, his loss!

Comments? (Though it's already ordered!)
