Tron Spinner Question

Hello, I've been a long time reader of this board, and I am finally starting my project. A big part of this project will involve integrating the controls from a TRON CP.

My question concerns the Tron Spinner. Does anyone know if the stock Optical Encoder Board from a TRON spinner can be wired into an optipac? I ask simply because the TRON optical encoder board has 10 wires coming out of it, which is obviously more than a single player setup on the optipac.

I found the manual for TRON via KOLV, but alas my skills at reading technical schematics are nil.

Is there an easy way to do this, or should I consider replacing the encoder board with one from Happ?

I made a control panel using a Tron spinner in the past.  Do youself a favor and get a happ encoder board (or one from a tempest should work too).  You'll make your life much easier for less than $20 and the Happ encoder works perfectly with the tron spinner.

I seem to remember that the stock TRON boards are not compatable, or very difficult to interface.

Oscar's optical board and mouse interface should be plenty to get it working.

Thanks for the feedback - order placed!

There is addtional info here, http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=12805;start=msg100055#msg100055, that you may find interesting.

If you use any optic board other than the original Midway one, you will have to do a little modification to make it fit.  What I did with mine is drill a couple new holes through the metal bracket and used some nylon spacers to place the optic board in the proper location with respect to the encoder wheel.
