arcade auctions have always sold bootleg and nonlicensed equipment. Go to the auction sometime and start looking inside the Ms. Pac machines there, you will see 4 bootleg boards for every original one. What would happen if you brought a Mame cabinet to the auction with no roms? You would be lucky to get $100 for it. |

Agreed. All those MAME machines at auctions, you must realize, have been and are likely to be soon again out on route. The coindoors were not there for "authenticity" - they were there to have people drop quarters in them. Same thing with the slot machines, video poker machines, etc. Not supposed to have them but bars (esp. rural ones) got them all over the place. That these sales and placements on route occur so openly should tell you how much law enforcement cares about this nickel/dime stuff (they *do* have better things to do). Only with video poker do they occasionally clamp down when things get too blatant/common (i.e. they look the other way until too many places have too many machines and/or they start getting complaints) - it always perks back up again though - just my exp. in Wisconsin and Indiana... Really wish I had room for the Jurassic Park Lost World shooting game... :( |
