To bad you didn't go with a MK64. It already has the ability to use some inputs as ID bits which can be read by software.

That's true but I think the mk has ghosting and blocking problems so all in all the ipac is still the preferred choice for most.

From Ron's own page:
No interference between inputs. No Ghosting and No blocking.
I definitely have not had ANY problems with my MK64. My CP has 2 joysticks 1 trackball (serial) and 20 buttons and there is definitely no ghosting and I can mash down on all the buttons and have them all read by the sw.

MK's have no troubles at all.
I considered doing that, but since I didn't identify my control panels with key presses, I just make it so you could change control panels (with a key press for next/previous cp).
why?
I had (redoing it now) a 4player control panel and I wanted to switch to a 2 player cabinet when there wasn't 4 players.. So I could play player 1 in the middle.
But I didn't set the filter (good idea though) but instead allowed you to have a config for each game for each control panel. So setup donkey kong for your 4 player CP... then set it up again for your 4way classic CP so you can play it in both.
