i hate latex paint ; ;

krion:
Spent the last couple of days putting latex on my cab that I recently took side art off of...  I went down tonight to prep the cab for final coat of paint and when I was sanding it the stuff just started to peel off more or less...

Im pretty sure that there was no "goo" left after removing the side art and I sanded it pretty well after as well...  The paint appeared to be clumping on the sander...  Not coming off as "dust" but gathering into sticky clumps.  Im not sure if this is an affect of painting particle board with latex or what.  I mean, i let each coat dry for at least 8 hours.

Anyhow... if there are any experienced painters out there.... How do I fix this?  Do I have to strip all of the paint down back to the wood with stripper and use an oil based on it?

TYIA for info, this has me quite frustrated at the moment.

Latex paint will tend to "clump" up when sanded if not completely dry. I would suggest letting it dry for a day or so and sand it down and try again. Oil based paints are the best for nice finishes,but can be trickey to use.

Just a guess, but one, that paint sounds like it hasn't cured at all, and two, you could really do with a coat of primer first.  Primer 'primes' the surface and gives the final coat of paint something to stick to.

 Out of curiosity what was the sideart beforehand?
MonitorGuru:
NEVER apply Latex paint directly to particle board!

If you must use latex paint, prime the board with a good oil-based primer (to stick to all that exposed glue in particle board) such as KILZ original ($8 a gallon at home depot--a steal).

Remember latex over oil is okay, oil over latex is not.

Give it a good couple sandings to remove all bumps, and perhaps put two coats of oil primer.  This will make your life MUCH easier and give you a nicer cab.
Safron:
Always apply liquid latex to your woman.
You will learn to love latex after that  ;D
