SVGA monitor white diagonal lines
« on: August 19, 2002, 10:16:30 pm »
HELP!

My 21" KDS  industrial monitor has developed white diagonal lines and it "flsshes" different intensisties (for lack of a better explanation...)  it happened after I wrestled a bit to get it out of my cabinet when I discovered my frame/mount was too proud and needs to be shaved down more...    once I got it back on the desk it now displays these weird white lines kinda diagonally under the picture...

I can't find much info about this type of ocndiition... I saw some stuff alluding to arcade monitors and having the brightness cranked up way too much or something (or was it contrast?)

Is there a trimmer pot some where I could adjust to get the picture back to normal...

I'm pretty deperate fior help as losing this monitor would really monkey wrench my cabinet plans....

Thanks!

well..your monitor has contrast controls..if not then do it by software..whatever software you video card is using..and decrease contrast.my monitor gives me similer problem when i put the contrast level at its highest.

its like some extra while lines aint it?

and colors look washed out too am i right?

thanks snaaaaaaaAAAake...

Turns out it was just a fluke thing... I let it sit and the the next day it's fine... regardless, I found the adjustment pots in case it acts u again...   plus now it's mounted into my cab... so it shouldn't get jostled anymore.

Does anyone know what would cause little white lines (slightly diagonal, almost horizontal) to appear on my 27" TV??
I have to turn the brightnesss way up to make them go away, the lower I set the brightness the worse they are, also the darker the image on the screen, the more noticable they are.

Any ideas?

That's visually close to what I had... does the image still look ok with the brightness cranked?   If so it might just be the "brightness range" inside the case (danger/warning the insides of a TV is a dangerous place to be poking around if you don't know what you're doing - and I don't know anything about TV repair - YMMV) which effects teh range/sensitivity of the outer "user" brightness adjustment knob...

I dunno... I had trouble finding useful info on the subject... is there a usenet forum for TV repair that might have a FAQ  or could trouble shoot that?

FWIW or comparison's sake... here's a picture of my monitor with the lines...

What you are seeing are retrace lines.  The beam should be turned off as it returns to the top of the screen.  If something causes the beam to remain on, you will see those lines.

causes:
 Screen or master background/bias control.
Powersupply / B+ line or loose neck board.
 Blanking circuit failure.

Here is a good reference.

Chapter 11 talks about the problem.

Thank you.. I hope that helps the other gentleman's problem too...  I thought that is what I was seeing (retrace lines) but if you've never seen em before, how do you know what to call em... so thanks for positively id'ing em... In my case I believe that I probably loosened the neck board, and then subsequently unloostened getting it back into the cabinet...

Those look like the same lines.  When I crank my brightness up, they go away.
