Damn you cross-border shipping and duty charges, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!! --- End quote --- I can't recall if I said it in this thread already ... but you must read this: http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7594&sid=ee1244a45cf350ca2e29d6367c7fc145 Oh yeah, and get a US mailing address. ;) |

While I certainly don't keep on the lookout for arcades these days thanks to Mame, I can't think of any arcades around Vancouver that aren't complete shitholes. The only one even close to me I can think of are the few arcade games at the local Silvercity movie theatre, and they haven't changed since the theatre opened years ago. --- Quote from: CheffoJeffo on May 31, 2007, 06:34:21 pm ---I can't recall if I said it in this thread already ... but you must read this: http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7594&sid=ee1244a45cf350ca2e29d6367c7fc145 Oh yeah, and get a US mailing address. ;) --- End quote --- Interesting, although it mainly just tells you how things happen in shipping, rather than any amazing loopholes to exploit. And a US address would work, but your still paying to ship it to that address. And then you have to pick it up and cross the border, and you always run the risk of the border agent finding the goods and fining you. |

Paying taxes on your stuff is par for the course (you would pay them anyway if it were a Canadian vendor ... Starburst distributes the majority of the Happ catalog in Canada). In my ordering experience, the duty doesn't compare to the taxes and handling fees (UPS). Two reasons to have a US address, the lesser of which is to try and skirt paying duty/taxes. More important is for use when vendors won't ship to Canada. Oh yeah, and you are a lot closer to John's Jukes than anybody else here, which is nice ... or would have been some months ago. Cheers |

Well, my main bitching point right now is acquiring an arcade monitor. After some research, it seems like I have two options. Get one from a distributor here in Canada, but I've contacted them all and they all want at least $1000, for a monitor that goes for $400 in the US. Or order direct from the US, and pay around $250 for shipping at the least, along with duty and tax in the end. So basically I can take it in the ass, or up the ass. |
