Alternative to tinted plexi/glass ?
(1/1)
ras2a:
I was thinking about the sticking some adhesive film used for tinting car windows onto regular clear plexi.  Has anyone used anything like this before and if so did it turn out alright?

Cheers

I have heard of people doing it with mixed results.... well kinda..

Watch out for bubbles...  I have known many to try to do it on their car themselfs... and find out why there are professionals who only do it.  Its a pain.

So my only known bad mix was on a car window.   And I think you can do better on the floor with a flat piece of plexi... but guessing.

But is it cheaper?  I thought smoke plexi wasn't all that much...  And the color of the plexi makes a difference...

there was a great thread a year ago or so about different colors and different types.  Oscar (I think) started it.  Look for it.

Nope - I live in England and all the places I've phoned are pretty damn expensive for tinted plexi/polycarb/polystyrene sheet.  I'm not sure though I may just end up paying the extra cash, at least you're guaranteed to get a good result.  I heard that 'greys' are the best colours for tints ?

cheers

Forget about using adhesive tint on acrylic or polycarbonate. It won't work because the stuff flexes too much. Even if you are able to squee-gee out all the air bubbles (which is almost impossible) it will never last. In a week or so bubbles and air pockets will begin to appear. A friend of mine owns a tint shop and he told me it won't work. Of course I didn't believe him so I went out and bought a roll and tried it. I gave up after four tries.... I believe him now.
