So I have a Powerbook...

I'm guessing it's probably a 5300cs.
If so, it shipped originally with system 7.5 on it.
You would probably do best with System 7.6.1 for the OS on it.
That one was really stable, and had all the pre-OS8 upgrades.
I really wouldn't recommend going to OS8 unless you have a RAM upgrade.
The extra features added alot of overhead, and will really tax your system.

I've got a 5300 running OS8 and MacMAME .33, that will run most of the older stuff really nicely.
It's got 40Meg of RAM on it though.
I'm not sure how high a version you can run on MacMAME because it got bloated in the mid-30's somewhere, as well.

Very useful!  Thanks for the info.  You wouldn't be willing to take a quick ghost of that machine, would you?  :)  Or perhaps an extra copy of the OS installer you may have around I could buy off of you.  I'm thinking that's best for me, to just grab 7.5 and the upgrades.

I'd like to help you out, but the way those shipped is a little weird.
They shipped with the OS on them, and the first thing you are supposed to do is make a series of backup floppies for them.
I did that originally; but I don't have all the floppies anymore because I went to OS 8 on it, and didn't need them anymore.

Here is a good place to download the disk images you need though.

The MacMAME Forums will be a big help in getting it all together and running for you.

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions, or problems, and I'll give a shot at helping where I can.

I would highly recommend picking up at least one of these (two would be better), if you want to make it easily playable.

You can always go the Gentoo Linux route if you don't want to shell out for Yellow Dog.  Not everything compiles right with a PPC, but I doubt you'll run into too much trouble.

AWESOME links.  Thanks muchly, I'll give that a shot when I have the chance.  My plan is to build a small portable cab with the powerbook inside it.  I'll be using arcade controls and will be looking to use some lightweight wood so that I can bring it from place to place easily...
