Not that I was ever a pro at Tempest, but I still think that if you have the skill, then it's just a matter of getting use to the equipment on hand.  I've actually gotten fairly decent playing Centipede with a mouse...I may not be great by any means, but I can do just as well with a mouse as I ever did with a trackball.

Just keep in mind that Arkanoid spinners like that have those gears to make small movements precise. You cannot give a hard spin on those and have the wheel keep turning on it's own after you let go (which is what Tempest spinners do).

also how would they compare to oscars spinners for example?

Nice looking tempest spinners on ebay are going for around 20 bucks.  I used to see (and let them pass) for 10... but it seems like they are going up a little these days.
