Ok, I want my cab to feel super smooth and slick.

Is this the way to do it:

1) Sand until smooth

2) Prime

3) Paint

4) Sand ultra-fine

5) Paint 2nd coat

Please note I can barely afford the paint and primer so spray guns, laminet, etc wouldn't be possible.

Thanks!

That is the way to do it.  Sometimes you may want to sand again and put 1 more coat of paint on, but you should be OK with your steps.

actually you do sand between coats of paint. just make sure to use a high grit sandpaper and do it lightly.

i dont know about the US, but in Australia you can get an MDF primer. if youre building in MDF i thoroughly recommend it. its extra thick so it fills in faster. use the finest foam roller you can find for both primer and paint too. This is how mine turned out. The stool was done in the same way
