Do I need 2 coin buttons ?
<< < (2/3) > >>
RayB:

Part of my opinion here is based on memory only, but hear me out: The only games that used 1 coin switch per player were usually the 3 or 4 player games. That way, whatever slot was coined up, that player "station" would be ready for a player to join in and play.

Now, I don't know of ANY 2 player games which also did this other than perhaps some driving games like 2 player Super Sprint?

The reason most 2 player games even have 2 slots is not so that 1 slot is for 1 player, and the other is for player 2, but because it is better for "business" to have 2 slots in case one of them becomes defective, or for that matter sometimes a quarter that doesn't work in one side, works in the other. it just made more sense to the game's operator, because with one slot, if it broke, that's it, the game stopped earning money until the operator came by or someone called in to have it fixed.

Witchboard:
What I'm doing on my cab is just putting 1 coin button.  I'm going to set a shift command on my keyboard encoder in case I run across a game that requires specific coin slots.

Example:
Coin Button = 1UP
Shift + Coin Button = 2UP
Ed ONeill:
RayB and other you have settled my worry

I think I will just use one for this project.

Thanks

All NeoGeo cabinets for one...If you put a coin in on the right side, that's a player 2 credit only.   There is an LED on the control panel showing how many credits each side has.   General rule of thumb: Any multi-player game that doesn't have a shared credit pool will need two coin slots.

Since there is only one set of controls though it's a moot point.  All the 2 coin slot required games are simultaneous play which is impossible with one set of controls.  I can't think of alternating turn multi-player games that would need seperate coin slots...
Onji:
Only 2 games come to mind that uses different coin buttons for that player, and their TMNT and Simpsons both 4 player games, the slot you use determines your character
