You don't NEED one but you are better off with one. You need a video card that can send a 15kHz signal though. The J-PAC amplifies the video signal from the PC video card and delivers it to the correct pins on the JAMMA edge connector. It can split a 31kHz VGA signal in half but you then end up with two images on the screen but to be useful you need to send it a 15kHz signal. It's main function is as a keyboard encoder like the I-PAC but enabling connection to a JAMMA edge connector so you don't have to rewire the cabinet. |

There are a lot of video cards that can output a 15 KHz signal. However; only two that I know of that do it in Windows: the ArcadeVGA and cards based on the Trident Blade T64 chipset. What I want to know is why more people haven't written these drivers. The information is certainly out there. |
