Rebuilding a SFII Control Panel?
« on: May 30, 2002, 02:32:08 pm »
Is it feasible to take a SFII cabinet and rebuild the existing control panel and add a few more buttons and a trackball in the middle?

I just ordered my J-Pac and a Trident T64 video card since I"ll be using the existing arcade monitor.

Also, can someone reccomend a trackball with 2 mouse buttons that is ready to be installed via ps2 or serial port that I could incorporate into this design?

Thanks in advance,

wes

I'd say it all depends on the size of the cabinet & the control panel.

My CP looks a lot like a HotRodSE, except there's a Happ's 2 1/4" trackball & 4-way joystick in the middle.  It's about 28" wide & 11" deep.

Check out my basic layout at http://bassofeesh.tzo.com/cp.htm

Many SFII cabs were made by Dynamo, Ltd and can be retro-fitted with 4 player control panel kits such as the one below, which I was lucky enough to find on e- bay:

If you can find a vendor willing to place an order with Dynamo (I think they only deal with wholesalers/retailers), you may want to look into one - a lot more room than the standard CP.
