Other (non-MAME games) on your cabinet
« on: August 02, 2002, 11:02:35 am »
Anyone play non-MAME games on their cab?  I'm looking to install other PC games that I can play via my 8-way six button controls....  wish they'd release the newer Gauntlet games!

So, what else do you guys play?

On the cockpit I had a second CP with a steering wheel and played Carmageddon. I have all 3 and the Splat Pack. Heros of Might and Magic (2 or 3, not sure) was fun too.

So, these games are easy to play with only six buttons and no keyboard?

I was thinking more along the lines of true arcade games that were ported to the PC and not yet emulated in MAME... does anyone else play anything like this?   I sure with they'd release Gauntlet Legends or Dark Legacy or something along those lines....

I was wondering about Gauntlet legends, problem is that the 2 newer gauntlets use 49-way joysticks so I'm assuming the only way to play em would be to make a CP with that type of joystick ???

Well they relesed versions of those Gauntlets games for PS2 and Gamecube and those don't have 49-way controls. it could be done, but it wouldn't be practical at all for anybody that didn't own some sort of game controller. Wouldn't work well with mouse or keyboard. How many people out there playing games have controllers? I'm sure tis' a small fraction. Even the biggest FPS games take keyboard and mouse. (But I do wish they would port those games too...)

Hi there:

actually... I tried to install the visual Mame pinball thing some time ago...... (I remembered I saw some demo in some site and it looks quite real !!!...)

I think I got the program installed... but then I never got it to work.....

do I need to load the pinball machine(s) one by one like I need to load roms in Mame ???

(well.... since this is more like an arcade for Mame site... so I never asked here.... also... too busy with all those arcade games already with my joysticks....)

but I'm planning to drill holes for my control panel very soon..... if anyone can give me some info... maybe I'll put an extra 2 buttons on the side for pinball !!!...

thanks....

Yes.  VPinMAME actually uses the MAME core to emulate the tables. Each emulated pinball table requires a .VPT file, which goes in the Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables directory, and a ROM (.ZIP) file, which goes in your VPinMAME\roms folder.

For non-emulated tables, such as older electromechanical machines or original tables like my own Fight Night (http://irpinball.ztnet.com/originals.htm), all you will need is the VPT file, although some have additional fonts or music.

All of the key files can be downloaded from http://www.irpinball.com.  You need, at a mimimum, the VP Full Install, Visual PinMAME, and the VBS scripts (they go in your Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables directory).  Download the VP Full Install, unZip to a temporary directory, and install it.  Next, download Visual PinMAME, unZip it to C:\VPINMAME (NOT a temporary directory!), run Setup and take all the defaults.  Finally, start tracking down ROMs!  As with MAME, ROM sites are moving around quite a bit, so you'll want to create an account at http://www.vpforums.com to get a handle on where the ROMs are at any given time.

I'm going to play Pro Pinball: Fantastic Journey and Timeshock in my cabinet, two great games that unfortunately suck when played with the keyboard  :'( :-\

Agreed.  I can't get my fantastic journey, The Web,  or Timeshock working in XP.  That's OK, I prefer Big Race over those anyway.  You know what, I've had big race since it came out, I still play it.  It is an AWESOMe pinball sim.

If I ever put a Star Wars yoke on my cabinet, I want to put inthe DOS version of X-Wing to go with it.  The problem with that is that X-Wing doesn't have remappable controls, as far as I know, and it requires an insane number of buttons, and the ability to type names for a new player....
