No not neccessarily. In this case (& prob others), there is very little chance of it ever working. Take a read thru the MAME / MAMEWorld (EmuAdvice) forums and you will find the same topic there...
Lilwolf:
The idea for starting it was to have a place to keep track of the roms CRCs and also what information they have.
The trouble is the encryption. Nobody is really working on it. It will probably require a trojan added like CPS2s.. but take note that the cps3 boards die just looking at them... So not to many people are really interested in taking a chance on their boards.
I'm guessing that it will be emulated some day... like this.
1) Someone gets a hold of some dead cps3 boards... And starts playing with them.
2) They figure out where the dead board stuff is happening...
3) They find a way to brute force work around it.
4) Then they trojan it like cps2s
DeathMonk:
After reading more into it, it seems like a daunting task. But to say that it will never be emulated in the lifetime of emulation/MAME seems a little ridiculous.
Howard_Casto:
Let's put it this way. It won't happen within a year. It's unlikely it'll happen in 3. It'll probably be 5 or more years before it is emulated. Why? Because of what Lilwolf said. In 5 years or so cps3 pcbs will be realitively cheap and oweners will be more willing to have them experimented on. ATM the average cps3 game is 250-300 bucks just for the cart, disc, and pcb.
The past backs up this point... all of the major encrypted systems started being broken 5-7 years after the last game for said system was released. The hardware gets cheap at that point. The last cps3 game was made in 2001/02 I beleive.

I guess I was lucky to get my complete kit for 100 bucks....though now that DC Emu is here, and pretty frickin' sweet for an alpha release I don't know how much longer I'll need it.
