The power supply is probably adjusted wrong and your game is in a reset loop because of it. You need to get a multimeter and use it to check voltage and adjust that voltage to +5.1

you need a multimeter.  It's a tool that measures voltage.   If you test your power supply, you should be able to tell if there is a problem with it.  I believe it should have 5 and 12 volt rails????   Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... I'm not sure off hand.

But like paige said, that could very well be your problem.  There should be a dial or screw to adjust the voltage on the power supply if it is in fact not what it should be.

Some machines also have a dual position switch that can lock you into diagnostic mode. Honestly if I were you, I'd acquire a manual and try the multimeter and looks for common sense items such as shorts, wire harness unplugged, etc.

If it is a JAMMA cab, you usually have to go out of your way to go into diagnotics and the settings for the board.  I didn't see the game listed on KLOV and couldn't find a manual online for you, so really can't offer up additional advice.

Good Luck

If you take a picture and add it to the thread we can at least likely solve the mystery of the orange plug. Try to take a picture of the cab's inards as well as the plug and hopefully between seeing where it is coming from and the pliug we can at least try to help you with that.

Of course it would be best effort without having a schematic for the game.

I'd second the vote to check if there is a "test" switch turned on.

Next thing I'd do is buy a JAMMA game board of a game you like. Not only can you plug this new board in and see if it works, but you then can take the Time Killers and set it on fire. To this day I still feel offended that I wasted .50 cents on that piece of crap!

My Xmen has a test switch in the coin door.  They can be anywhere I'd guess though.  Just look around the cabinet for a stray button.  Mine says "TEST" above it, yours may or may not.

Also... you said your back door was smashed... does it have a kill switch in the back?  I doubt this has anything to do with it since if it had a kill switch and it was not pressed down, the cab wouldn't start at all, but it might be worth checking for just to eliminate the chance.

Time Killers is a JAMMA board. There have been a number of auctions for the PCB and it seems to go for about $30. So if you don't particularly care for the game or if the board is bad, you are not in bad shape. If you are not familiar with JAMMA it is a sort of std for how a PCD connects to monitor, power, and controls. This means that for the most part, you can get any other JAMMA board and just plus it it.

most of my JAMMA machines I access the test / diagnotics screens by shorting two pins at the JAMMA connector. I don't recall which two they were ( I installed a push button long ago on those) as I am visiting with family the next day or two  I can't easily look at the moment.

I also agree that it is a horible game. I would look for a game you do like. You can find classic boards converted to JAMMA, companies like CAPCOM, NEOGEO, etc make JAMMA boards. Depending on the type of game you do like, you could certainly find one that would be a direct replacement in your cab; should the board turn out to be wasted.

The wire thats not connected in the pictures looks to be a ground, but cannot be 100% sure.

Try removing the board from the game, and reseating it, time killers if I remeber has 3 boards that interconnect to form the game.

Also, have you checked the voltage yet?

Get as copy of the jamma pinout here :: http://www.coin.demon.co.uk/jamma.htm

Get a digital multimeter.
(Cheap, just look at sears or your local hardware store)

Set it to measure dc, then connect the black lead to ground and the red lead to +5 on the jamma harness right by the board.

If it's low there is a small plastic screw on your power supply that you can turn to adjust the voltage.

The power supply is the small rectangle at the bottom of the case with a screw terminal strip labeled +5 +12 GND, etc.. etc..

DO NOT adjust it without a multimeter. You can take the +5 volts over 7 volts with that and damage your board.

And remember relax, it's just a arcade game, not rocket science.

Later,
dabone

that "red checksum bad"  is an error I believe.  Is it not a memory/chip error?  Someone please correct me.

If I am thinking correctly, you may have a bad chip on the board, or at least a problem with one.

I'm sorry I'm not an expert on troubleshooting but I know that the checksum checks are looking for problems on the board, and the fact taht you have one is more than likely the problem.  Hopefully someone else here will be able to confirm this or add the correct info to it.

Just get a new tested board. I think I saw one on Ebay for $30 with manual. (Having the manual will help you figure out the errors on the first board too).
