electric eye / infrared switch?
(1/1)

Does anyone know where I can purchase a switch that is triggered by an infrared light beam being broken? Something that I could connect to an IPAC in the same way other microswitches connect.

Somthing like this?

If you mean for detecting coins, you could try here and build one.

Not exactly. I'm looking for something like what you see on a garage door opener. The switch is triggered when the beam of light is broken. Wave your hand through the beam and it acts just like a button being clicked.

What's the actual application for what you're trying to do? You might get some better suggestions.

Otherwise, most alarm parts work in this manner. You could get a PIR (probably get a used one for free if you talked to an alarm installer) and focus a very narrow beam (just use tape inside the lens). Most of these can function as either a Normally Open or Normally Closed switch and use 7
