I'm about to order this: http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/56010011.htm Do I still need one of these: http://www.happcontrols.com/industrial/trackballs/56553000.htm Also, in case it matters, I'm going to hooking this up to an Opti-Pac along with a Vortex Spinner. |

If you are planning to mount in wood, yes, a mounting plate would make your life easier. Not mandatory but it is an easier approach than other options. You may want to explore this option instead. http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/55110100.htm |

yes as Zaphod said, it all depends on what you are mounting in. My control panel is particle board bottom with a lexan top. I was able to go without a mounting plate because of the lexan top, it basically acts as its own mounting plate. |

So a 1/8" piece of lexan is strong enough to support trackball play? That's a good idea. |

take note though the mounting plate is 10 bucks... maybe 12 at happs... hack with lexan if you don't want it to look like a mounting kit... Otherwise just do it. |
