usb vs game port star wars hack
« on: June 06, 2002, 04:54:28 pm »
I have successfully hacked my starwars yoke to my game port but was wondering, would there be any benefit to hacking it to a usb controller? I compred the action of a usb joystick to that of a game port stick and didn't find any differences.( actually, i have a joystick that has a usb adapter that can connect to the game port. isn't the gameport supposed to be slower?) i also tried attaching a standard game port controller to the usb adapter that came with my new one. As I am sure most of you know, it didn't work! anyone know the technical differences between the 2?

thanks todd

For it is not enough to have a good mind, rather the main thing is to apply it well.

There is no difference.  Other than I heard with newer faster copmuter the gameport will eventually burn out (at least with microsoft products) because the computer is too fast for the traditional gameport.  Just a rumor I heard though.

You don't plan on taking the controls on and off alot, then there shouldn;t be any worry for USB.

I wonder if you could plug a USB-hacked Star Wars yoke directly into a PlayStation 2..?  I know it works for most USB->Ethernet adapters and PC steering wheels..

:P

My main reasons for hacking analog controls to USB:

1) Forward compatibility.
