Here's the thing, though: a PC analog joystick is functionally a pretty decent alternative to the 720 joystick, except for the problem that they don't have an arcadey feel at all. The other problem is that they have a centered position (unlike the 720 joystick) which means that it might take some discipline to stay on joystick's outside circumference. The 49way should have a much better arcadey feel to it. Since 720 demands 16 directions, and the 49way can supports that and more, I think it might work pretty well. --- End quote --- I hear what you're saying about PC analog sticks, but is there any reason why a 49-way stick would work better than a 'normal' analog arcade stick? Edit: Are 49-ways just analog in the directions? What I mean is do they have the analog range than normal analog stick's do? (I should know the answer but I've never used a 49-way before)... |

Analog grid is dependent on the resolution of the analog to digital converter (i.e. an 8-bit ADC would give a 256x256 grid). 49ways are halfway between an 8way and an analog stick. They provide some additional resolution while still being digital and therefore accurate & consistent. |

Most of them are flight sticks, aren't they? For 720 there wouldn't be any difference functionally, it's just that the feel of a flight stick would be terrible for 720. Happs sells their "analog joystick with ultimate handle", though, so maybe that would be good, too. |

btw, I have a 49 way + daves board but it has the spider on the bottom. So it won't work well. |
