BYOAC Custom tokens - optical coin mech?

saint:

For those contemplating tokens but concerned about the size of the token vs. their coin mech -- anyone thought about building one of these circuits?

Doesn't this just replace the coin switch?  Wouldn'y you still need the mech unless of course you replaced it with sometype of straight shoot?

Knoxximus:

You keep the coin mech....it's just that coin size doesn't matter anymore.  Hell, ANY coin you put it will register since all your doing is breaking a light beam.

But the coin still needs to make it through the mech.  If the coin ends up in the reject chute it won't break the beam.

Right, which was my point when I asked the question.  The mech adjustment is really the hard part, although I do like the idea of an optical switch.
