That is awesome. Thanks a million. Saints bokk is ordered and I will of course strongly consider purchasing your book... If it it actually helps me building that arcade I'll in fact guarantee I'll buy it :D

Thanks.

Anyone have an opinion on the value of that book compared to Project Arcade? . Or is buying both a sensible option?

DEFINITELY buy Saint's book. I'm sure many of you who are new to this wonderful hobby don't realize that were it not for Saint "DIY Arcade" hobby probably would have faded into history like "Texas Instruments home computer" and "Zips sneakers".

As far as I know he almost single handedly popularized this hobby. I think Saint and Lusid were among the "founding fathers". As far as I can guess buying his book helps to support him and his family, also this site we enjoy.

I think every member of this site should buy his book. Except for me of course, I've avoided it so I never even accidentally copied it in writing my own tutorial. I would imagine our writing style are different too - I think his book is like "What would you like to build" and mine is like "OK, step one we do this, then step two we do this, now for step three." I like to think of mine as "instructions", a "picture book" tutorial.

I've left this hobby to study other things, but I intend to come back soon and build a few more cabinets and add several new chapters to my tutorial, also give it a complete overhaul. You can be in it too, I have a "reader submitted" section :)

So yes, buy Saint's book and help our cause! Were it nor for Saint we'd probably have a really lame hobby like knitting - or even getting work done! Gasp!

And hey if you find my tutorial very helpful feel free to buy a copy from me off eBay, but not until you've bought Saint's book :)

Hey Craig!

So "free for us" is the link to the HTML site? :D

Are you still around to get the "full" package? I'd be interested in one. I don't need to actually receive the physical CD, as I'm in Argentina, South America, so if I can just download the .iso or something it'd be fine. How much would that be?

Thanks!

Hi buddy, I can mail a CD anywhere in the world for like $1.30 US - the postage is surprisingly affordable :)

But buy Saint's book first of course :

We stand on his shoulders :)

Have fun!

Wow, great work!  I first started frequenting Arcade Controls about 10 years ago and it has been awhile since I have paid a visit.  It was a pleasent surprise to see your tutorial because it combines a lot of the great information that is available and makes it easy for anyone to follow.  Reading through your guide made me want to get back into the hobby!

I purchased Saint's book soon after it was released, and I have to say that even if you never intend on building a cabinet it is a great read!  Definitely buy the book.

Just found this forum and I realize I now have about 1,000 hours of research ahead of me in this awesome hobby.  I'd love to make my own bartop version just to learn, and possibly move into full cabinets one day.  I did notice that this link was dead, is there a newer one we could check out?

Thanks!

If you want the spystyle one, archive.org has backup copies.
2007 version: https://web.archive.org/web/20080312044235/http://spystyle.arcadecontrols.com/01/index1.htm
2011 version: https://web.archive.org/web/20130319133946/http://spystyle.arcadecontrols.com/2000/index00.htm

If you want something newer, Ond's Metropolis thread is an excellent choice.

You may also want to go to the wiki (link at top of page) and read through the FAQ.   ;D

Welcome.

Do yourself the pleasure of checking out some of the projects listed in the Hall of Fame Worthy Projects thread.  There some incredible builds from the past (and some ok ones from the present) that should inspire and inform you on some of the choices you have ahead.

Happy reading, and good luck!

I fixed the link, thanks :)

I'm trying the free hosting detailed in this article :

https://www.techradar.com/web-hosting/best-free-web-hosting

But they have limitations, of course.

Apparently you can get awesome hosting from Google Cloud for less than $1 per year, but you need to create and configure a Linux virtual machine ? Take a look at this :
