Turning off the NeoGeo jingle in attract mode?

Having worked in an arcade, I can understand why someone would have turned off some, if not all, of the attract mode sounds.  They had this awful "Chase the Rainbow" machine in the one I occasionally worked at that would shout insipid things like "Chase the rainbow shining bright!" and "Come play Chase the Rainbow with me!" every few minutes.  Thankfully, I rarely had to work in there for more than four hours a day, so I only heard each saying about 20-25 times daily.

Since nobody ever came into that arcade, I took up building things out of used redemption tickets - baskets, cars, houses, etc - to pass the time and help me block out the sounds.  I also learned how to yo-yo, wrote stories on the back of tickets for the next employee who had to work in there to read, and tested out every prize at the redemption counter.  Sadly, in the most evil form of torture that there is, I was not allowed to play the games...

Anyway, back on topic.  Yeah, I wish you could shut that off too, but I haven't found an option for it.

I just checked in 'Sengoku 2' and 'Metal Slug 2', it can be done.

Press F2 to get the service menu.
Use the player 1 controls to navigate the menus.

Move down to 'Setting up the Soft Dip' and press player 1 button 1 to select.

Move down to 'Slot 1 <game name>' and press player 1 button 1 to select.  You could also select 'setting up the cabinet', but you won't see any of the game specific setings.

Move down to 'Demo Sound" and press player 1 button 1 to toggle the sound on and off.

Press Player 1 button 3 to exit the menus until you get back to thetop menu.  Move down to exit and press player 1 button 1 to exit.

The game will go through it's boot up again.  You will still hear the NEO-GEO jingle on boot up, but the attract mode no longer has sound.

Um, thanks mate..  but my question was how to turn off the jingle - I know how to turn off the attract sounds in games, it was just the fact that NeoGeo games had that jingle that seemingly can't be turned off.

cheers though  ;)

ErikRuud:

OK,

I did a little more checking.

To make the jingle go away completely, you must shut off the demo sound in the 'Setting up the Cabinet'.  Then you have no attract mode sounds at all.

Sneeka:

Ah ha!  Excellent!

Many thanks mate :D  I can sleep at nights now ;D
