question about console roms

I think this was addressed before, but

with mame you need to have multiple versions of roms sometimes to make the games work.

what about:
32x
gameboy
color
advance
nintendo
snes
genesis
sega master system
game gear
others

can I delete duplicates?

Yes.  There is no parent-clone relation between the roms.  They are just different dumps of the same game.  Delete away.  You might want to check out the good codes so you don't delete a good version of the rom.
