Lilwolf:
Reasons why ATI is USUALLY better then NVidias..

NVidia doesn't make video cards.  They make video card chips.  Each customer of theirs puts whatever TV-out chip they want.  Some good some bad.

ATI is now is the same boat... "Built by ATI" will always be good.  "Powered by ATI" go back / forth.  Sapphire is the same company that physically builds ATI's so they are usually good also.

Consider sticking with the original arcade monitor if you have one.  For 80 bucks or so you have the arcadeVGA and your done.  You WILL have better output then you could possibly get with SVid...

Also.. bigger isn't always better.  Robotron is better on a 19" then a 25" or 27"... why?  You can see the entire screen easier without moving your head.  Better for the zen-twitch playing...

Last...

Whatever you choose will be find...  As long as you don't have a real arcade next to it to compare to  ;D

I got my 27 inch tv from circuit city for 180 bucks, with S-video.  They have a newer model fo the TV I got that has a width of 26.2 inches.  Arcade monitor is always going to be better quality, but the tv feel is just one of a kind.

There is a difference in cards, as far as video quality out.  So just be sure you get one people recommend.

btw, about scan converters..

depends on the price your willing to pay.  Some scan converters will make a composite TV look AMAZING...  Some will make a SVid look like crap.

basically... if it cost less then 100, you will probably get better results from a video card.

If you find a used Scan converter on ebay that was originally used in TV studeos... you are beyond lucky!

What happened to smaxdot?

They are, but a tip for you and for anyone else reading this, if your subject line that shows up on the thread list is more descriptive, you'll almost certainly get more pointed (and usually helpful) answers to aid you.  Not ragging on you, just did the same thing you did and noticed through A LOT of threads that this is a common malady

--- Quote ---S-video needs to be involved here (I'm not even going to attempt a component connection!)

for the size TV you're looking for, I believe component inputs, if not RARE as heck, will jack up the price a BUNCH!

--- Quote ---I'd like to get a "Built by ATI" Radeon 7500 (or greater) video card with S-video out.

From what I've read, you'll be better off  with GeForce or a newer model ATI card.  Something to do with driver issues and fixes for them.  Check out www.pricewatch.com for decent prices on 'em.  Once you find a good price on a card you think you'll like, Google it for reviews to help you decide if you wanna go with that card.

Scan converters....dunno about 'em, don't wanna lead you astray.

--- Quote ---2)I've read a number of posts where people say they're using TV's, but not too many that confirm they're happy with the results!

I think you'll appreciate the larger screen size.  Use the larger fonts, make sure you have a decent FE so you don't need to go through windows, and you'll like the cost-to-size ratio.

--- Quote ---3)....can anyone recommend a good 24" or 25" TV to use?

I've had a Phillips I LOVE.  They seem to be hard to find now, though.

Go to Happs to purchase a bezel, but you'd be a fool not to check Tailgunner's DYNAMITE $2 bezel instructions in -->THIS thread<--.  I think it's BETTER than purchasing one because 1)you can pick your color, and 2)you'll appreciate spending less and knowing you made something that sweet looking!

--- Quote ---5)I'm not Mr. Handy...thinking of buying a cabinet to use...preferably...relatively empty
--- End quote ---
buy a plan to follow, buy a cab kit, or buy a cab with no monitor.  Since you're not Mr Handy, you don't wanna risk killing yourself removing the monitor.

It's like building a house.....plan how much you want to spend, then triple it!  LOL

Good Luck
