| Need help with Trackball to mouse hack |

Hello Gents, I have an actual arcade trackball although I have no ideal who made it as the only markings are : S.T.C. Rotterdam 22-0480 Anyway it already has the breadboards with the wheel pickups already mounted and I would like to just reuse them if possible. It uses dual pickups on each wheel mounted side by side and I hope this is ok, as the mouse hack would work with dual optical pickups. I have a pic of the wiring setup I made in paint showing the wiring diagram on the stock breadboards and let me know if indeed I can use the original dual pickups with a mouse along with which wires hook up where. Again I have read the how to's but this trackball isn't like any I have seen. Also I haven't noticed any other trackballs with dual pickups (that doesn't mean much at my age though ;-) ) So the breadboard doesn't look like any I have seen pics of. Anyway thanks guys and I do appreciate any help! Renegade mamedrivers @ hotmail.com |

I'm guessing you do not have a digital camera so we can see this? |

Based on your description and sketch, you most likely have a Suzo 'active low' trackball. In order to interface this with a mouse, you will probably have to add some pull-up resistors between the +5V (pin 4) and the signal wires (pins 2 &3) on each optic board. I believe Andy W. recommends 2.2k resistors on the Suzo trackballs for the pull-ups. Other than that, your hack should follow http://mamewah.mameworld.net/mousehack.html almost exactly. |

I played around with my Cheap (and I do mean cheap) dig. camera and got a couple decent pics. Hopefully this will help ;D This is the front with the dual light pickups. |
