Opinions on Happ Subminiature Joystick?

KrispyTheClown:

I am going to be MAMEing a bartop cabinet (or attempting to), and due to space restrictions, I am considering using the Happ Subminiature Joysticks.  They can be seen at http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50275500.htm.  I realize these won't have the same feel as a regular joystick, but I was wondering how these are overall.  I will be using this cabinet for more 'classic' games and will not be playing fighters on it.  If anyone has had any experience with these, please let me know.

Also, would you recommend the concave or convex handle?  I'm thinking the convex would be more appropriate (if it's what I think it is - they don't have a picture on their site of the difference between the two).

Thanks...

Not familiar with those at all.  Their compact joystick I've seen reviews on here saying "Only suitable for kiddie crane games."

If you have a wood CP you can save a lot of depth by going with a Mounting plate.  www.oscarcontrols.com sells them to work with the Happ super or Comp joysticks (I think).  Or www.groovygamegear.com includes them with the Prodigy joystick or sells them separately for the Omni-Stik.

If you have a metal CP and still need to save space, I would probably recommend going with a Seimitsu (they show up from time to time on E-bay, often not called that, though  ???)

KrispyTheClown:

I don't have any pics at the moment to post of this cabinet, but there really isn't much room in the way of the control panel.  It is about 3 inches deep, but it is hinged so I need something that would clear when it is lifted.  The panel itself is metal, so mounting shouldn't be an issue.

those look like crane machine/industrial sticks. if you want a small jstick try ultimarcs jstick (its also switchable between 8&4way) or look around for some of those mini japanese sticks, the underside is small on all of these. i wouldnt go with that happs one though, you'll prolly not be happy with action, and for games that you like you'll notice the difference.

Pretty sure those are the seimitsu's I was referring to.  See this thread for a pic:  http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=17162
