As with any awards show, its not about technical competence, skillfull behind the seens work or masterful presentation, its all about popularity ;D

therefore just for the helluv it I would like to start the nominations for the ROMMIES.  The categories will include:

1. best maze game
2. best scrolling shooter (side as well as top to bottom)
3. best sports themed game
4. best 2 person simultaneous playing game
5. best fighter
6. best artwork on an original cab
7. best driving game
8. best platform game
9. Non-Scrolling Shooters
10. Vector
11. Game that drove you to MAME

You can vote once per category and no need to justify your choice.  A game can be input for multiple categories.  i will tabulate and anounce the winners at the end of march.   I will accept new category suggestions until the end of this week and edit original post to suit.

( i thought it would be neat to see what other people's favs are cause I'm getting bored of showing the same games when people come over ;D)

My pics:
1.  ms. pacman
2. 1943
3. taito power goal
4. jackal (or top gunner)
5. mortal kombat
7. ironman stewart's offroad
8. mr. do's castle

edit added 9 and 10 and 11

9. gyruss?
10. star wars
11. Rygar

Just one question, how come no. 6 best artwork?  Doesn't really fit in with the other 'best game type x' categories??

Good idea btw, I need a while to decide on my mine :)

hmmm good point --thought it would be good to branch a little--I think i'll scratch it ;)

Don't get me wrong the question is an interesting one, just felt it didn't suit the other ones...

Perhaps a category to add could be 'best 3-4 person simultaneous playing game'?

Edit: another thing, atm the 'fighter' category includes versus and scrolling games, perhaps this could be broken into 2 categories?
APFelon:

1. best maze game
2. best scrolling shooter (side as well as top to bottom)
3. best sports themed game
4. best 2 person simultaneous playing game
5. best fighter
6. Stricken from the record
7. best driving game
8. best platform game

I will start off the nominations, but I don't think anyone will agree with my choices. Are these supposed to be games that are actually emulated and playable in an emulator? My arcade experience ends in 1999, so I probably won't nominate games with the best graphics, etc.

1. Dig Dug, the "unmaze" game. It has the qualities of a maze game, but it isn't a maze game-- as I have read before, the player makes the maze for the monsters! Still playable after all these years.

2. I never liked these, but I would like to nominate Darius because of the "experience" one had when playing the three screen cabinets. The music was wonderful!

3. NFL Blitz. Great barroom game.

4. Mortal Kombat. Back in the day, there was such a community built around this game, it was a joy to play one on one against another player or an old nemesis.

5. Virtua Fighter II. Upon it's release, it was the most technical fighting game around. I would love to have one in my home one day. While the series got more detailed and complex over the years, Virtua Fighter II is the grand daddy.

7. San Francisco Rush 2049. I have never been so addicted to a driver before. Great fun, ESPECIALLY playing it in a large bank of people.

8. J. J. Squalkers. Laugh if you must, but I think it is a great classic platformer that gets it all right.
