12V LCD Marquee monitor, powered from a PC PSU ?

Hi All,

Just acquired this monitor that I'm possibly going to use in a future bartop, at the moment i'm using a PSU from a NAS that i hardly use for testing purposes, i have cut off a lead from a dead HD PSU that is the correct barrel fitting (5.5mm x 25mm) would it possible to power the monitor from the DELL PSU using a spare sata adapter and my dodgy wiring/soldering lol, would it be safe or just not worth the risk ?

The DELL psu is powering 1 SSD, 1 HD, i5 3470 and a GTX 750ti (low profile)

Would save extra expense but not at the cost of an electric fire  :timebomb:

Sounds pretty dodgy to me. That Dell PSU is only rated for 250W, which means it is probably already working hard enough just running the PC.

A better way might be to use some sort of IEC-320 power splitter. If needed, it should be easy to hack the monitor's power brick's cable to work with that. You could even completely avoid soldering by chopping an end off, stripping some insulation and and screwing the wires to a terminal block. That way you run both power supplies with no risk of overloading anything.

Search for "IEC-320 splitter". Here's an Australian example, though it is a little pricier than some. You should be able to find something more local.

Thanks for the advice, I've seen similar cables here in the UK so definitely something to look into :)

Forgot to update, got a new CCTV PSU that works perfectly with the monitor as it was about the same price as a IEC lead that was mentioned :)
