Some games horizontal shifted, others perfect

Calamity:

Why would the 1.024 value horizontaly shift my games when I put it to 1.224 for example? I thought this is for vertical adjustment?

That's a vertical value, yes. But pushing it up artificially will increase the horizontal frequency too (i.e. number of lines). A higher horizontal frequency causes a narrower picture. Maybe that's what you're seeing, rather than a horizontal shift.

lol, yeah maybe. I used one of your lines from your pstar preset and it seems to be better , although means fixing everything else again (pots on the e/w board etc). this is such a pain. I wish there was a tool that idiots like me can use to simply get the values set and copy paste them. Never managed to do that with arcadeosd. The numbers never matched what I saw in Mame.

So it's much better already by just changing the 15khz line with your preset, then adjusting the rest in hardware.

I will be honest that after so many years of using groovy mame those numbers are still a mystery to me.

I tested 20 games now and the are all good except marble madness that has huge black borders but is centered. Weird.

How would one for example find the optimal vertical settings when we can't even stretch vertically.

Btw: a friend of mine wrote a code for me that will detect the current running game on my system and then set a value for a digital Pot that will stretch the vertical size for me. Pretty cool. When I leave the game it goes back to normal.

Marble Madness will have huge black borders because that how game displays graphics. It used 336x240 but most of time graphics is displayed in area of 296x240. Only balls on title screen are bouncing in full area.

Interesting. I didn't know that
