XArcade TankStick Serial Cable
« on: September 23, 2024, 12:35:50 pm »
Hey, everyone,

New here, and have a question.

I have an old TankStick from 2013, which uses a Serial/PS2 cable. I have unfortunately lost the USB converter that came with it in a move.

I am aware that they sell replacement cables, but since I'm in Canada, the $14 replacement set costs $45 to ship.

I'm not too inclined to pay triple the price for shipping alone, so I'm curious if I can get a generic Serial to USB off Amazon instead, or if it absolutely needs to be the official one?

Thank you!

There were units produced that DID NOT have USB support (you'd need a ps-2 keyboard plugged into the back for earlier units), so even if you had a Serial to USB cable, the earlier versions of X-Arcade did not support USB.

If you had the exact enclosed cable shown at bottom link,  your unit has usb support.

If not, there are not any serial to usb adapter that will work, except the PI Engineering PS2 to USB Adapter (which they have a patent for)

If you are 100% sure you had USB functionality from a cable (and not an actual adapter),  just send email to support@xgaming.com, show pic of the back/if you have receipt, sure can get u cheaper option for cable.

Thanks!

I definitely did have a USB cable that came with it. It was in the invoice that I tracked down, and I remember using it.

Will reach out to support first.

Anyone else remember that "we promise it will work forever" warranty?   ::)

All you gotta do is give them more money and replace the encoder!   ;D

People railed on here about it for years.
