Thanks Scott - pretty much what I am thinking... except my panel is not a rectangle so I think I need to make a pattern/sled out of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF and then use it as a pattern for the edges but also use it as a sled for the middle area. I am going for something like this: With this as the inspiration: Not 100% sure on the details yet but this is the idea. I just need to start cutting instead of being afraid to make a mistake. 99% of this project's success is going to come down to the paint job anyway... |

There are several ways you could do the 1/2" raised pink part. This approach seems pretty good. - Cut/shape the pink part from 1/2" MDF. - Clamp it in position on the piece with the *already-done* yellow recesses. - Drill some dowel holes through the yellow recess piece into the pink piece using a drill guide to control the depth and keep the holes perpindicular. - Score some glue grooves on the back of the pink piece and on the face of the other piece under the area covered by the pink piece. - Glue dowels into the pink piece and make sure they are not angled. - Put some glue on the yellow recess piece grooves then put the pink piece on top. - Add clamps and/or weights while the glue cures. I assume you will be rounding the bends and corners of the yellow and pink areas so the router bit bearing will do the work and you don't have to chisel the inside angles, right? Scott |

Good to see you getting prepared to resume progress! Your cabs are always a treat. |

That is an excellent idea and honestly I wish I thought of it earlier. I am going to be raising a part of the panel by gluing another one onto it so part of it will be built that way. |
