JVL Echo Not Booting Up
mahkeymike:
Im pretty sure JVL had some sort of "temporary/limited support" over a decade ago when they discontinued the product. You were just over a decade late to the party, LOL.
BTW, your JVL is toast. No input/video signal is a dead GPU.
Phlav:
Awe man mahkeymike, you hit me with a jab to the gut with the late party and then the final blow (uppercut) while am holding my stomach with the dead GPU :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:. Down for the count lol. But I think you are correct on the dead GPU issue. Does that mean its now paper weight or can it be replaced with an aftermarket GPU?

You might still beable to find the gpu chip on ebay or mouser, digikey, but even with a IR soldering station i had a hell of a time getting the old chip off without warping the board. But maybe i just had the wrong temp/timing profile. Either way, if you have to take it to someone for bga rework, its going to be expensive even if you manage to find the gpu chip. I would just check ebay for someone selling a working jp70/90 ( depending which one your echo has )

Much appreciated mahkeymike. I will do some searching around for the gpu as you suggested. I found a site call game room guys that still sells the unit and on their "Services" page they mentioned that even if you didn't purchase from them they will refer you to qualified technicians in your area if they have the info. I will give them a call to see what they can do. I will post any valuable/helpful information from them here if I receive any in case anyone in my situation might be looking for assistance. You forum guys are awesome :notworthy:

What board do you have, JP70, or JP90? I might have a brand new GPU chip for a JP70 i never got a chance to use. If you can find a BGA rework company to replace it, I'll sell it to you at cost since i have no intentions of ever tackling that project again, lol.
