New Cabinet - Inspired by 4 Player Secret Arcade and Pacto Tech 4000T
flynnb:
I absolutely love the Pacto Tech 4000T. It completely simplified my setup. It emulates XBOX 360 controllers so for Mame I set the general inputs for players 1-4 as joypad inputs. Set it and forget it.
I have a pretty decent steam library for the arcade machine and several games work well with arcade joysticks alone. No need to switch to gamepads but it's easy if I wanted to. Prior to the 4000T I also used Joy2Key and AutoHotKey (AHK) scripts. They never worked consistently. Joy2Key would hang or script failed to load or Joysticks wouldn't load in the right order, etc, etc. My kids gave up on playing on it cause it was always 'broken'. Most users don't want to tinker with it and that's beauty of this thing - it just works.
It was bittersweet when I deleted all of my scripts from loading in launchbox. Yeah, I probably spent dozens and dozens of hours on those scripts and it sucked that I 'threw it away' but in the end I have something now that works all of the time.

Ha Ha, I totally get the bittersweet deleting thing. No one but you understands the amount of time put into it to make everything work. But when it's acting up I hear about that right away ;D. My arcade uses rocket launcher for ahk and joy2key but lots of setup time. If the Pacto allows me to setup an administration button to switch player 1/2 from arcade joysticks to 360 pads, I'll be very happy. Thanks again.

Yes - it's as easy as hitting a button.
They have really good set of documentation on wiring/setup.

Attaching a picture of mine. I went with a red Happ pushbutton as a holder for the mini switch (hot glue to hold it in place - and for ease to change color if I ever wanted to). I was originally going to use black because I liked the look but I figured if someone was stuck on toggling between gamepads and joystick I could just tell them to hit the red button. Much easier if I was away from home and texting/calling to troubleshoot.
When I ordered the vinyl for the control panel I included instructions for the buttons and yellow font for the default position. The only issue I've had were the boys forgetting they left the joystick in an analog position vs a dpad.

Sounds like the Pacto Tech is what I'll need. Also thanks for the information pics for your button layout. I inlaid a quick guide on my arcade to make it simple for any newbie to play. Works well. Only problem I ran into is kids arguing who's turn it is. I make them play each other in Pong to settle it. They've gotten extremely good at Pong!!!
pbj:
Tidy up those dangling wires.
