--- Quote from: fallacy on June 07, 2024, 02:57:58 am ---Those web novels are not Japanese, they are South Korean. Shows like Squid Game came out of South Korea as well. More and more as our story telling goes to absolute dog shite I turn to South Korea to give me something that has zero wokness and a little edge. --- End quote --- Heh, my son would likely know better than I. I grew up on the Japanese anime aka star blasers, g-force and I think speed racer. There just wasn't much else, probably the only things translated to english. I've seen all the remakes and revisions of 'space battleship yamoto' including the live action, it's nice because they more or less stuck to the exact same story, no "updates for modern..." well you get what I mean. He's keen on S Korea so very likely he would just say I don't know what I'm talking about. I actually have to pick him up and shuttle him around today, I'll ask. Anything that hurts our current entertainment gatekeepers is a-okay with me. They showed us that if they control it, they will give us what THEY want, and if we complain, will call us every name in the book. Well past time to be rid of all of them :) |

Robbbert:
I haven't had much interest in movies for a long time. I used to visit the cinemas back in the 80s and late 70s, but the closer ones all closed and the major ones in the city are too far away. Our commercial TV is clogged with ads which I hate, and the public broadcasters are all woke - so I don't bother with TV much at all. I may still buy the (very) occasional japanese anime or pokemon, but no interest at all in the drivel that comes out of Hollywood. A relative sent me 2 DVDs containing something called Rick and Morty which I had not heard of (it wasn't on our free-to-air TV, and I won't pay to watch streaming or whatever). So I read up about it and found that somehow it is a huge thing. Anyway I started watching, but after half an episode I just couldn't take any more. How it became a big thing has me entirely mystified. What a load of junk. |

It's cerebral and weird but on a different level. YEARS ago I was the same about the Trailer Park Boys. A buddy kept hounding me to watch, and I couldn't get through the first episode because I wasn't connecting with the characters. I watched 3 episodes and have been a fan for life. R&M is one of those lighting in a bottle things that was magic for maybe 4 seasons. I know EXACTLY what you mean about not getting into it, I was the same, but I gave it that chance. Trust me, if you have even a slightly off funny bone, you'll get into it. I only say this because I think you're on the same opinion plane as I am with the state of entertainment. It's a good one out of the mass of absolute crap out there. Another franchise that was good for 2 or 3 seasons was Archer. |
