I want to build my own arcade controls!
Windows screen resolution

I have a 27" VGA CRT that I have been using with a computer running an old version of MaLa and MAME. Runs great, but now I'm upgrading the computer to run some more modern games (e.g. GTFore). The problem is that Windows 10 has a bad habit of changing the screen resolution to whatever it sees fit. If it exceeds 800x600, the monitor goes black.
How do I lock the screen resolution so it doesn't change.

more information required!
What is the computer? What are you trying to do and on what system? Hardware, OS, drivers/software, games, etc. When specifically do you encounter issues, only when exiting games?
