Is there a tutorial on all of the different files associated with a MAME game to get it working properly.  BIOS, CHD, ROMS, etc

Not really a tutorial, but a website.

http://adb.arcadeitalia.net

I usually just plug the ROMname and site into a search engine.  i.e. "kinst site:adb.arcadeitalia.net" for the Killer Instinct page.
http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=kinst
- Alternate approach is to bookmark this link and change the ROMname..

Scroll down to "Files" and click on "Show Mame required files" and "Show romset files".
- Select the version of MAME you're running.
- ROMset listing shows size and CRC for each file so you can tell if you've got a different version than what you need.

Tons of other useful info on the site, too.  Definitely worth a bookmark.

That is helpful, but I guess I'm looking for more of a step by step to explain parents, clones, CHD files, BIOS, and where to put each kind of file.

For Example, with the Golden Tee Fore series.  The parent is iteagle.zip, there is a ROM for each one (gtfore01.zip, gtfore02.zip, etc), CHD file(s), and the driver is iteagle.c
