Best "sandwich" combo for 3/4" total?
« on: January 17, 2023, 08:07:49 pm »
I want the top of my control panel to be exactly 3/4 inch total.  What's the best way to sandwich artwork, lexan, and MDF to achieve exactly 3/4" and use my 3/4 t-molding?

I only find 1/2in and 3/4in MDF!

Don't forget, if your using artwork on the surface, and t-molding on the edges, you can use particle board.  Or, if you want to get a little more expensive, they make Baltic Birch plywood in a lot of thicknesses.

Both have the added benefit of not being as heavy as the MDF.

My most recent project was 5/8" particle board + Formica Laminate and it was perfect for 11/16" chrome t-molding.

Im partial to mdf but maybe I should switch to particle board?  I'll be using a CNC at the local maker space.   I think it should cut it cleanly on both materials.  I think mdf is absolute best for cleanliness though.

Bro, countersink those joysticks.  Or use longer shafts.

Looks like 5/8 in MDF can be found.  Add a 1/8in lexan sheet and I'm good to go.
