Standard MAME sees Joystick, GroovyMAME does not
« on: January 08, 2023, 07:20:02 pm »
So I have a pair of these joysticks:-

https://qanbausa.com/drone/

I have connected them to my GroovyMAME PC by Windows. Windows sees them in "Set up USB game controllers" and all directions move.

Stock MAME, on the same PC, can see them. GroovyMAME doesn't recognise them at all, no directions, no button press, not listed as an input device at all.

I tried resetting the INI file to stock (mame -createconfig from the command line), no difference.

GroovyMAME will recognise my Xbox One controllers and allow me to configure those, so what gives, why won't it let me configure and use this Joystick when stock MAME does?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

GroovyMAME 0.216 - Can see controller
MAME 0.250 - Can see controller
GroovyMAME 0.250 - Cannot see controller
GroovyMAME 0.251 (freshly downloaded from Github, no modifications) - Cannot see controller

Hi BuckoA51,

We still need to polish the rawinput implementation for joysticks, that's why you my have issues with some hardware.

Meanwhile, in mame.ini set joystickprovider option either to winhybrid or dinput (default is auto).
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks Calamity, putting winhybrid in the ini file has indeed solved it. I guess rawinput has slightly less input lag? If you're still working on it I'll keep trying when new builds come out, see if the sticks are recognised or not.

I have U360 and as for now I'm still waiting for response from Andy (Ultimarc). I've sent him some time ago partial log from groovymame.

You may try now new version of groovymame. It should fix rawinput problems. Just remeber to set rawinput under joystickprovider option. It's probably not default option.
