last amd cpu with built in emudriver compatible gpu
« on: December 09, 2022, 03:15:07 am »
I'm working in a mini set up using an amd a6 cpu/apu processor with integrated graphics that is emudriver catalyst driver compatible. No additional graphics card needed.

Small motherboard, small overall footprint.

This got me thinking what is the last most powerful amd processor that is emudriver compatible?

The ryzen 2400g motherboards have vga out but these use vega drivers so I assume are no good.

The A12 series looks like it may be it as this supports catalyst?

Anything newer / more powerful?

It looks like that Ryzen 5 2400g with VGA motherboard combo may work.
The Adrenalin drivers appear to be compatible and "Emudriver & CRT Tools 2.0 beta 15 based on Adrenalin 18.5.1" is available.

Has anyone tied this running emudriver on a recent AMD processor (CPU with built in radeon graphics)?

A little power house Ryzen 5 2400g box running on a micro motherboard would be sweet.

You need to go Linux (Groovy Arcade) to succeed with the Ryzen APUs.

I have a 2400G running here. You can even use newer ones like the 4700G.

APUs are a bit trickier to setup than discrete cards, though.

HAHA that is exactly what I was planning! Cool, good to know it works.

Ideally I was looking to run Windows as then I can use it for other software like demul and maybe even teknoparrot as well as groovymame. The ultimate all-in-one mini set up.

I read that linked thread with great interest. @ghost13500 tested the A12 Series (from 2017) with no luck either on Windows and your linux interlaced driver patch cannot be back ported to Windows drivers. So close!

Maybe the older A10 APU series from 2012 would work? But would that be powerful enough for Demul/teknoparrot?

Pre-Ryzen APUs are worthless, not powerful. In fact the 2400G is on the lower range of acceptable. If you want to build an APU based mini-pc, you need to go Linux.

It would still blow a pi or mister out of the water.  Do you think an A10 APU mini atx setup would work with windows emudriver?

I can't say. They weren't tested at the time when these APUs still made sense. They will likely work except for interlaced modes, that means barely usable.

The "A" APUs are too weak for MAME, period, they struggle emulating fm sound for instance (Kung-Fu Master, etc.)

Very interesting. I heard about the A series emudriver compatible from a big thread on the arcade projects site. Specifically this post:
https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/lets-connect-a-pc-to-an-arcade-cab-shall-we.20382/#post-313488

Sounds like this is bad information if the A series are too weak!!

Excuse me for digging again.

I've read all the APU-related posts. Got it. GO LINUX / GA!

I've been with a Dell Optiplex with some R5 low profile cards for both CRT Emudriver and GA. Now I wish to get an a-lot-more powerful mini PC. A few quick questions:

Would GA work (240p and interlaced) with the newer Ryzens like 5700G, 5600G, or even Ryzen PRO with Graphics? How about Ryzen laptops?

Without VGA and with DP / HDMI output only, does a normal DP2VGA (RTD2166 or RTD2168) adapter still work with the above to connect to CRTs?

Thank you so much. Excuse my noobieness.
