I want to get into burning my own eproms and was wondering if they are the same files as are used in mame?
Yes, assuming that MAME has them confirmed as good dumps.
Here's an example of how to tell which ROM file goes with which IC on the PCB.
If you look in the "xybots.zip" file, there is a file named "136054-1101.5c".
- "136054-1101" is the part number.
- "5c" is the grid location on the PCB.
If you look at page 48 of the manual
here, you see a drawing of the PCB.
- There are a series of numbers on the left/right and a series of letters on the top/bottom that form a layout grid. These numbers and letters are also printed on the PCB.
- If you look where row 5 meets column c, you see a large IC labeled "136054-XX01" in the PCB drawing.
- Looking at the parts list on page 49, Designator 5C is Part No. "136054-1101" and the Description is "Integrated Circuit, EPROM, 2764-300".
You now know what ROM file to burn to a
2764-300 EPROM to replace the IC located at 5c on the Xybots PCB.
