X-Arcade Spinner- not recognized in MA

I installed the new X-Arcade spinner (replaced a button). Windows recognized it immediately and I was able to configure controls in MAME itself for games (Tempest). When I boot up MA, no dice. I'm sure it's a "controller config" thing but cannot figure it out. Anyone??
