That is the dope with the iron clad BS detector.

Attacking my speculation/ Theory, does not discount what Ive posed Here, about Audio Fidelity.

Thats like saying, that I cant repair a PC, or Restore an Arcade machine... just because I question
that we have actually put a man on the moon.

Its a Ludacris's argument.  But, I still chuckle at it.  Its somewhat comical how Harsh your replies
are.  You are just a Miserable person, whom enjoys personal attacks.

I really dont care, but I do find it Amusing, that you are that butthurt, and that you actually get
some sort of satisfaction, from your lashings.

Seems to have derailed somewhat from the original topic a bit.

For speakers any ohms you prefer most are 4 or 8 but iv seen some in the middle at 6ohm?

most speakers listed as 4/8 ohm compatible are 6 ohm.

an amp is rated for a certain wattage at a given speaker load. usually this is listed as the minimum speaker load or rated load. most amps these days can do 4 ohm no problem. while some higher capacity/quality/special amps can do down to 2 ohms or even lower.

typically the lower the ohms, the higher the output capability and more efficiently it does so.

too low and you blow up the amp though. higher is better...but you also eat into your output power.

back in the day most speakers where 8 ohms and up since most home systems could spare the extra power...and most car systems 4 ohms cause the efficiency was needed.

given whatever information is packaged with your amp, stick to that load.

Iv noticed jbl do some 3ohm speakers. How much difference would that make over 4? Would amps rated to do 4ohm handle 3 ohm or going below 4ohm such as 3.9ohm is instant amp cookage?

As discussed above, the actual impedance across the speakers, from moment to moment, can vary a bit anyway, depending on frequency. So I wouldn't worry about much 0.1 ohms. Amps themselves will be often be rated for a range of speaker impedances, such as 4-8 ohms.

You have to check the amp specs.

You might also ask jbl what amps those 3 ohm speakers are designed for.

However, in general you match a 4 ohm amp to 4 ohms speakers etc. Otherwise you'll likely hear audio distortions and/or put extra loads on your amp/speakers

again, its for efficiency but also to help "cook the books". Bose does the same thing by running 2 ohm speakers. in some instances, speaker outputs are in series, where you have a 4 speaker setup, and using 2 - 2ohm speakers wired together in series increases the speaker load presented to the amp at about 4 (well within it's rated min load)

kinda like when 175 watt amps where sold as like 2000 watts*

(*peak for the first cycle when a square wave is put in at 10x the suggested input level and the gain turned all the way up for a millisecond before it blows up, but hey it did 2000 watts!)

by running 3 and 2 ohm speakers they can say "our amps output power is 620 watts" but if you swapped out the jbl/bose speaker off it, is actually somewhere around 350 when you put a regular speaker on it.

Whilst I do subscribe to good sound quality for my home theatre and stereo setups, for an arcade cabinet it really isn't necessary to go overboard. I spent very little money upgrading the sound in my MAME cabinet by using a second hand 4 channel car amp, bridging two channels to drive a cheap 10" sub and the other two channels driving two cheap 4" two-way speakers for the mids and highs. The car amp has an LPF for the sub channels and an HPF for the mids/highs. I adjusted them so that the sub cuts off above 150Hz and the HPF to cut off below 150Hz. I used the GPU power cable from the PC power supply to power the car amp and it works really well. Much better sound than the 2W 5" mono speaker that came with the cabinet, but also not an audiophile setup by any means.

Here is the build

Meh!! Now that I viewed the post without logging in, it is full of ads.  :banghead:

Hopefully you're able to get the jist of what I'd done. You don't need to spend a wad of cash to make a big difference in sound. Car audio components are perfect for this, amps are cheap and can be run off a PC power supply, drivers are loose and usually come with a template for cut outs. Just needs a bit of drilling and cutting and you're done.

Done an overhaul of the cab and looks like i might just use a sound bar taped to the top of the cab. Speakers facing the front sould make a big difference.

Will get some pics up but im now done with the cab. Monitor died but luckily had a spare that fit. Soundbar attached to the top and mobo cpu and ram changed. Running xeon e3 1225 v2 with 4gb ram. Overkill for mame but works fantastic.

Its so much better having front firing speakers than the ones on the back. Also having volume control is great too.
I think the amp in the sub i got is bust its stuck in standby mode all the time, its an old philips w00x sub. Gonna need a replacement, sub makes big difference in many games.

Might be repairable.

If it is a power supply problem, that is often easier to fix than other problems.

Given the symptoms, check for old/leaky electrolytic "can" capacitors. Often they go with a flourish, bursting out the top or the bottom. But sometimes they just die quietly too, with no obvious signs.

Checked caps and all look fine. Even changed the caps on the output side and same issue. Time to hunt for another monitor. Getting a 19 inch square these days is hard. Everything gone wide.
