Coleco Tabletop Galaxian repair
« on: March 03, 2022, 11:34:17 am »
Hello everybody.
I am desperately looking for a wiring diagram or photos of the printed circuit board of the Galaxian tabletop coleco (Not sure about the power and speaker wires). I'm trying to fix it. It practically does not turn on, no sounds can be heard. I tried to replace the transistors, but still nothing. There were some bad tracks, but I fixed them. Anyone have the same problem?
Thank you all.

Update.
I tried to replace all transistors, electrolytic and ceramic capacitors. I checked the diodes (which are functional). Now you can hear the sound (very very low so I'm not sure if it didn't work before), but the screen won't turn on. In the meantime I have designed and 3D printed the joysticks, which are perfect.
I keep looking for a wiring diagram. The only thing left for me to try is the screen (Futaba DM-20 VFD) which doesn't look damaged, but I don't know how to power it directly.

There is a Coleco game repair writeup at https://www.handheldmuseum.com/Coleco/ColecoRepair/index.html
See "Problem 2: No picture on the display (but I get sound)" on page 3 .  May give you insight into the problem you described.

I had no luck finding any schematics for these tabletops.

Thanks for the reply. It's true ... they are nowhere to be found. I have now disassembled the VFD, I will try to understand how to test it without damaging it (hoping it is not already) PS I continue this topic hoping to find useful solutions for others
