  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I was refreshing the game database my driving cabs and realised the 270 degree arcade game list found here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,105961.0.html is missing quite a number of games playable with a 270 degree wheel.

Has anyone every produced a full list of all arcade games that are playable with a 270 degree wheel? For example gaelco world rally championship is playable with a 270 degree wheel.  Even chase hq, a 360 degree games, is very playable with 270 degree.

I would posit that listing the games without emulators is a start. How are you running F-Zero AX, for instance? And don't the ID games use 540 degree wheels for the most part, until IDZ goes to 270, i think it is? Also it sounds like Gaelco Championship Tuning Race has really high sensitivity and is a nightmare on 270. Either way most PC wheels these days can have the degrees of freedom adjusted, though if used in an arcade setup might require a script to automate the process on game launch/exit. At least regarding Logitech because their profiler is reputedly pretty bad, especially older versions.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll test the ID games for 270 compatibly and remove them if no good. My set up is a wheel in an original 90s twin arcade cab so it's 270 only with an up/down shifter and view buttons.

I plan to have all the games on one huge wheel in hyperspin. The default emulator for the wheel is groovymame and any game that groovymame doesn't support I set the emulator for it manually in the rom mapping.

For example F-Zero AX is mapped to dolphin, then I use the M2 emulator for some model 2 games (daytona runs mostly fine in MAME but sega rally not so much), supermodel for model 3 games, demul for naomi, teknoparrot for PC based games like the newer Mario Kart and batman.

Many games I have not even powered on to test on 270 degree yet so this is very much a work in progress staring with a MAME XML export of category "Driving". I'm certainly not at all an expert so maybe someone has already done this before and can share their database?

Well, they still work ok, though they often feel better with 540. TBH ID5 in TP is so sensitive it's pretty much unplayable with 270. I used to use UCR/vjoy to remap the controls to a lower sensitivity, before i discovered how to change the degrees of freedom on my G25 on the fly. The inbuilt button adjustments didn't quite hit the right spot, and couldn't do 540, but there are other ways

...For example F-Zero AX is mapped to dolphin,
I thought it never really worked properly?! The dolphin devs certainly announced they've stopped supporting it.

EDIT: and please forgive me for sounding negative as well! I'm always keen to learn more, myself, and having collated information around somewhere certainly helps.

F-Zero AX is basically built into F-Zero GX and can be accessed in Dolphin with a Gecko code. Note that the game uses a flight yoke to control the pitch when airborne.

  • No idea what I am doing
Isn't Hard drivin full rotation 900? That's how I run it on my cab anyway.

Isn't Hard drivin full rotation 900? That's how I run it on my cab anyway.

It probably is 900 degrees but if you have a 270 degree cab, tap F2 to enter service menu and calibrate the wheel limits and centre position. I played it for 45 mins this evening and completed the speed and stunt courses a few times. It's a very very good game.

I couldn't get the gears working with my up down shifter though. The gear system in Hard Drivin appears to be an analogue system. It plays fine with automatic.

An alternative for gears is to play Race Drivin instead of Hard Drivin (compact version) as that accepts individual keys for gears and in theory the H2SEQ app will work (I'm having trouble getting H2SEQ to work with any groovyMAME games for some reason. It works fine for M2emu and supermodel)

It's going to take a me a long time to test these games as many are so much fun to play I get stuck play testing them!

For sequential shifting using up/down shifter on Hard Drivin', try looking at great little software H2SEQ:

Is this list representing games that ONLY require a 720 degree wheel, or USE a 720 degree wheel with other controls.

For example, Spy Hunter needs an analog throttle, a shifter, and a STRONG wheel stop mechanism as you're intended to slam the control wheel (yoke?) into the sides...  The programming actually expects that behavior.  So just having a 720 degree wheel won't get you anywhere with this game... you need more.

I Have CHASE H.Q. and POLE POSITING cabs (no PCB,s ) just controls, I'm trying to do a muti driving MAME also but with a 360 dree wheel, any one have a list/or a few of crossovers 270degree games that would play well on a 360degree controls or advice, also having trouble getting HARD DRIVIN' to play well I'd be grateful for any advice or tips
